Knee Jerk Reaction: WINNER's Debut

After what felt like several decades YG Entertainment group, WINNER, has debuted. They released two music videos. One for a song named "Color Ring" and the other for a song named "Empty."
For those that may not know, WINNER is the winning team from the competition reality show that aired last year (YG's WIN: Who Is Next?) pitting two groups of YG trainees against one another and the prize was debuting as an official group.

Fans of the show sat on the edge of their seats every episode waiting to see which team, Team A or Team B, would win the competition while falling in love with the rookies and choosing their favorites. So for some this debut means a lot as it is the culmination of all of their fan-girling/fan -boying and more importantly, voting.

Where did MY Sunny Hill go?

I was browsing kpop videos on Youtube yesterday and was surprised to find a new MV from Sunny Hill. I quickly clicked on it because I have retained this great love for them because "Midnight Circus" was and still is my JAM.
This is the new MV for "Once in Summer":

I was disappointed to find that the new MV was for yet another mellow, boring song. Now I am sure this song is someones favorite, but I fell in love with the edgy, slightly strange Sunny Hill we saw in "Midnight Circus," "Pray," "The Grasshopper Song," and "Princess and Prince Charming." After those songs the group assumed a different identity that I just have not been able to get down with. I mean sure, "Darling of All Hearts" was catchy but it didn't have the replay value of other songs.

I suppose it could be argued the songs I like are departures from their original style since they debuted with very lovey-dovey, cutesy songs. But I was under the impression that adding members after an extended absence and coming back with the songs I listed above was a transformation in style that would stick with the group's new identity. Not to mention, they gained a whole new fan base with those songs who I assume liked them because of their edgy concepts.

Kota being fierce in "Midnight Circus"

I'm not writing you off yet, Sunny Hill, but I need you to get your shit together. I don't know if there was a change in producing or writing or what - but please please please dazzle me once again with a hot song. I had a lot of fun learning the lyrics and dance moves to my fave Sunny Hill releases!
